Environment Topic

The children learnt about the three rules of recycling and were encouraged to ‘reduce’ waste, ‘reuse’ wherever possible and to ‘recycle’.

They learnt how lucky we are to be able to turn on the tap for water and that this is not always possible in all countries around the world. Posters were made to remind ourselves to turn off the tap and to switch off lights when we leave a room.

We reuse junk materials whenever possible and the children enjoyed making rockets from water bottles and especially loved the telephones they made from metal cans.

We visited Summers Lane recycling centre to see what items could be recycled and to learn how this was done. We were also lucky enough to have the recycling truck visit them at the kindergarten, when the children had the opportunity to help sort the items.

In addition we learnt how valuable trees and plants are for the planet and the children have been busy plating flowers, plants and vegetables to help the environment.
