FRS offers all pupils from year 9 to study for a GCSE in Jewish studies. Currently, FRS follows the OCR syllabus. The GCSE is based on 100% exam and there are to papers of equal weighting.

Paper 1 encompasses Jewish Studies and pupils study a mixture of Jewish customs, laws and festivals as well as the Jewish viewpoints on family life, marriage, abortion, medical ethics and homosexuality.

Paper 2 is a paper on Jewish text. Pupils learn about the importance of prayers such as the Amidah the Shema and Grace after meals. As well as looking at the books of Genesis, Exodus and Jonah pupils are introduced to the oral law by studying the Ethics of the Fathers.

GCSE lessons take place on a Monday evening between 6.30-8pm. Pupils complete homework on a weekly basis.
