Gateway to Judaism

This year long course will offer an in-depth introduction to Jewish religion, life and culture. We encourage you to study with us for the year, but you are very welcome just to take the modules that are of interest to you.The course is suitable for everyone who wants a rigorous knowledge of the basic facts of Judaism - whether you are Jewish and searching for greater understanding, or non-Jewish and thinking of converting, or just wanting to learn more about Judaism.

This course could also be extremely beneficial to parents whose children have learnt so much at religion school or Jewish day school that their knowledge has left their parents behind.

For more information please contact the synagogue.

Shira

We, as Jews, often call ourselves "Yisra'el" - those who struggle with God, yet midrash suggests that the same word when vocalised differently can also be read "Yashir El" - God will sing. We are instruments of prayer, with a unique ability to sing praises to God's name. Each 'Shira' will give us the opportunity both to learn some new melodies and sing those we know and love. Praying can be compared to playing jazz music - come and learn new riffs to share with the community during communal prayer. Previous experience is not necessary, bring your enthusiasm and start Shabbat morning on a great note!

We will meet on the last Shabbat of every month during 5770 (2009/10): 26 September, 31 October, 28 November, 26 December, 30 January, 27 February, 27 March, 24 April, 29 May, 26 June, 31 July, 28 August.
