Never Mind the Chicken Soup at The Arts Depot
On a Thursday evening on a warm June evening, the FRS Twinning Committee and FRS New Building Committee brought comedy and music to the Arts Depot Pentland Theatre, North Finchley in a bid to launch the FRS New Building Campaign and to raise awareness for the FRS-Polotsk Twinning Project. In the presence of the Worshipful The Mayor, Councillor Lisa Rutter, comedian David Schneider brought the house down with his special brand of Jewish humour, picking on those who forgot it was a comedy night and had booked seats in the front row, and a special mention to FRS’s Lisa Gayer for her superb role as the magician’s assistant in the Matzah trick!! The Lost Chords Barber Shop Quartet completed the laughter in the first half of the show, with their hilarious brand of A Capella singing on the themes of baby namings, constipation and haimisha fave foods at simchas!!

The Worshipful The Mayor, Councillor Lisa Rutter , Graham Moss and Debra Brunner
Award winning Yiddish singer Hilda Bronstein and her Klezmer band Chutzpah had us toe tapping and wide eyed, with narrative of where the songs came from, and their journey from pre-war Eastern Europe to our song books of today.

Vladimir Shappo Exhibition- one of the self-sufficiency projects supporting the Polotsk Etrog Reform Jewish Community
Exhibits from the Belarusian artist Vladimir Shappo were on display in the theatre atrium, a show piece for the self-sufficiency project, where fifty percent of all sales of art will go to the Polotsk Etrog Jewish Community, FRS’s twin. Members of the twinning committee were on hand to chat as were members of the Buildings Committee. Charles Kessler spoke about the wonderful new proposed FRS building that is now the community’s big development project and Debra Brunner showed a moving film of the recent Youth trip to Polotsk showing what a huge difference our support is making to the Jewish people in Polotsk.
The evening was hugely enjoyable and was a wonderful showcase for two very important and exciting FRS projects. We are pleased to say that the evening also made a profit of £1400. So fun and laughter all round. We would like to thank those who supported and continue to do so. It’s what community is all about.
